VARIOUS ARTISTS VOL. 11
CLARISSE RECORDS
CR164

A bumper house collection bringing together the world’s finest dancefloor generals, Clarisse’s latest group of deep and funky house disciples makes for a joyful July jamboree.

Kicking off with the returning Belgrade favourite Un Padre, ‘Mami Quiere a Papi’ sets off a delicious bassline chain reaction and pops the cork on the compilation’s party potential. Beefing up the bass is the drive and vitality of Venezuelan duo Alvii Ferrer and Elejota Santos, splitting ‘Candeleteo’ into a hard funking groove and horn-lead carnival call out to the Latin Quarter.

‘Tell Me’ by Billy R lays down the law with a Colombian bassline swing and the sort of lyrical hip-hop edge that Clarisse revels in, mirrored by the scrappy ‘Ryder’ by Ibiza ace Manuel Ribeca popping bubblegum and swinging baseball bats, and the karate chopping snares of Matned’s ‘Jersey’ ringing from coast to coast out of Malaga.

‘Temazo’ tunesmith Blow and Milano mover and shaker Dave Delly offer a triumphant round of ‘Silly Games’, a diva-lead jazz houser whose horn section and guitar licks will get the club nice and frothy. Corbeler’s ‘Cerc’ rumbles out of the shadows to become a no-nonsense crowd pleaser with plenty of funky clout and polishing a vocal sample to get the whole world hanging on its every word.

The champagne sounds of ‘Perignon’ raise a glass to the international connection of Jordan Allinor, Dlam and Cxshflxme, completely understanding the Clarisse assignment with a silver-tongued bubbler comprehensively fitting the bill. King of the clubs KICA and his minimal recipe for ‘Farfalina’ is another tapping into the label’s love of quicksilver percussion, intriguing international lyrics and bass bounding its way through the club.

The compilation concludes with another Venezuelan, Saachi, promising ‘Better Days Coming’: a deep dancefloor roamer to get lost in with butter-smooth vocals hitting at the break of dawn, it puts the exclamation mark on another ten-out-of-ten Clarisse performance.
